摘要

As a result of our investigations into the concentration, storage, and utilization of highly radioactive fission product wastes, it has become necessary for us to determine the effects of high intensity gamma irradiation on various structural materials in corrosive chemical systems at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 500° C.nLittle Information is available in the open literature on the effects of ionizing radiation on metallic corrosion. Before the inception of the atomic energy program, workers such as Bannister and Tligby , Bowden , and Price , made studies of the effect of ultraviolet light on the electrode potentials and corrosion rates of various metals.
