With the development of the gas titration type fluorine analyzer it was realized that the pneumatic method of transducing flow changes to fluorine composition variation indications was not suitable for low concentration ranges (10 mol% or less). The method of infra-red absorption, sensitized only to the component of the gas stream in the instrument proportional to fluorine concentration (SO2F2), was investigated theoretically and experimentally to determine the feasi¬bility of its use in extending the range of the gas titration type analyzer.nThe study of the problem provided a favorable estimation of the possi¬bilities, although to bring the project to fruition will necessitate further development. Operational process-type fluorine analyzers with ranges down to one or two mol percent are deemed attainable.nA hypothetical design calculation on an infra-red type fluorine analyzer is presented in the appendix.
