SELECTED TOPICS IN LOW ENERGY PION PHYSICS Lectures Given at Purdue University

Low energy pion physics, although only ten years old, has grown into a field of considerable size. It is clear that no adequate treatment of this field is possible in a small number of lectures I will, therefore, select a few topics in pion physics and discuss them from one or several specific points of view. Not only completeness, but also balance of viewpoints will thus be sacrificed. On the other hand, 1 will organize my material to emphasize aspects of problems which are not readily appar-ent in the available literature.nThe material can be divided into three pans. First I will discuss the main theoretical methods used in low energy pion physics, and I will give only the main features of each approach and if possible illustrate them by examples.
