A TWO-HUNDRED-CHANNEL TIME ANALYZER FOR NEUTRON SPECTROMETRY

An electronic time analyzer for time-of-flight neutron spectrometry is described. It includes a system of thirty gated-coincidence circuits which are cycled under control of a pulsed oscillator to provide 200 time channels. Channel widths as short as 0.2 μsee can he obtained. The analyzer has been used with the KAPL neutron spectrometer, pulsed, at a repetition frequency of 60 cps. It will record a maximum of one count per channel per pulse of primary neutrons, subject to the current limitation of the power supplies which energize the registers and to the short dead time (about 2 μsee) of the circuit which centers each recorded pulse within its time channel.
