摘要

Hypalon rubber is resistant to 60 percent nitric acid and 50 percent sodium hydroxide at room temperature. On the other hand, it is not suitable in boil-ing solutions of nitric acid of any concentration. Organic solvents cause a rapid swelling and severe damage to Hypalon. Exposure in air at temperatures of 100° C. and over cause the material to harden but cause no other signs of deterioration.nBypalon is not seriously affected when exposed to gamma emitting sources if the total dosage is kept below 108r. In fact, exposure to 5 x 107r gamma seemed to improve its tolerance to solvents but decrease its room temperature resistance to 60 percent nitric acid.nThe compression set of Hypalon is higher than for most elastomers and its use as a gasket material must be approached with caution.
