THE BEHAVIOUR OF A FLUX OF NEUTRONS IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OF A CONTROL HATE

A partially absorbing flat plate, the material of which does not scatter neutrons, is surrounded by a medium containing uniformly distributed neutron sources. The behaviour of the flux in the surrounding medium is considered "by means of the spherical harmonics method, and the linear extrapolation length at the surface of the plate is determined as a function of the capture probability in the surrounding medium.nThe rate of absorption of neutrons by the plate is then calculated in one case, and the error introduced by using the diffusion theory to calculate this quantity is determined.
