ESTIMATION OF EFFECTIVE CROSS SECTIONS FROM WESTCOTT’S CORRELATION IN AECL-407

The following is a brief summary and derivation of the working equations to use with Westcott's tabulation of g and s values in AECL-407. Westcott's data provide a means of estimating the effective "thermal" cross sections for well-moderated thermal reactor spectra. These cross sections take into account both thermal and non-thermal contributions to the reaction rate.
