A demountable vacuum-tight pipe coupling having facilities for remote operation has been developed for use with % in. nominal bore pipes carrying gases or liquids at high temperatures. It is potentially suitable for use with larger pipes.nThe prototype coupling was constructed around a modified lathe chuck which centralised and aligned the mating parts before the joint was formed by closing a conical valve seat.
