The transfer function of a heat exchanger commonly appearing in the literature is defined as the ratio of the outlet temperature of the secondary or demand side to the inlet temperature of the primary or supply side. In coupling a heat exchanger to a nuclear reactor core for reactivity feedback calculations, this transfer function is not applicable. Instead, what is needed is the ratio of the outlet to the inlet temperature of the same fluid--usually the primary. Such transfer functions for various models of heat exchangers have been derived. Also, two heat transfer processes are presented which may be used to describe the transient trans-fer of heat in a distributed reactor core.
