摘要

The greatest portion of the applied torque when tightening a stud was ab¬sorbed by the nut face or washer friction. It was found that the nut face friction for a refaced washer was twice that for an as-received washer, both surfaces de-greased. With the surface* lubricated with Holykote 6 there was no signlficaat difference between the nut face torque values for the refaced and as-received washers.nThe test results show that the nut face torque for the wide flange nut was 6 percent to 10 percent less than for the standard nut when the surfaces were degreased. With the weld area in the built-up wide flange test nuts, it was apparent that the higher hardness of the weld metal may contribute to the lower coefficient of friction found for the wide flange nuts.
