A study of the accuracy and precision of the lanthanum fluoride coprecipitation method for the determination of plutonium

The values of accuracy and precision claimed for the lanthanum fluoride coprecipitation method by other workers have been reviewed. The accuracy and precision of the procedure used in these laboratories have been determined and consideration has been given to the choice of a standard of reference for the accuracy. When compari¬son was made on a mass basis the accuracy based on seventy determinations by several operators was 97.4%. The coefficient of variation of these determinations was 1.9%, which enables a correction to be made for the negative bias of the method with confi¬dence.
