The sample is burned in an oxy gen stream using induction heating and the carbon dioxide in the evolved gases is absorbed by a dilute sodium hydroxide solution. The amount of carbon present in the sample is determined by measuring the change in conductance of the absorbing solution and comparing this change against a standard curve (l), (2).nThe method covers the determination of carbon in zirconium and Zircaloy in a concentration range from 10 to 800 ppm on a 0.5 gm sample basis.
