Proceedings of the Second Plowshare Symposium Part Ⅳ Industrial Uses of Nuclear Explosives in the Fields of Water Resources Mining Chemical Production Petroleum Recovery

摘要

The proposed Plowshare experiment in oil shale consists of two parts:(1) the nuclear phase, in which an atomic device would be detonated in the Green River formation;(2) the oil recovery phase, in which a study would be made of methods for producing shale oil by in situ combustion of the shale broken in the nuclear phase. This paper discusses some of the problems that may be involved in the second phase and suggests some methods that may be studied for operating an in situ project in oil shale.
