The notes thus outline the design objectives to be met, present the individual areas where the results of re¬search programs are necessary to the calculation pro¬cedures, and then indicate the calculation procedures to be used.. The research results represent the opinions of the authors as to the applicable data available that can be used as a basis for engineering calculations.. No effort has been made to include all of the diverse information available in the open literature on any specific subject. Where possible, some of the many excellent literature surveys available have been referred to and can be used as a starting point for a more intense investigation of any specific area than can be covered in the allotted time for these lectures.
