A COMPARISON OF PCTR AND CRITICAL EXPERIMENT DETERMINATIONS OF K∞ FOR TWO WEIGHT PER CENT URANIUM-235 ENRICHED UF4 IN PARAFFIN

The value of k∞ for 2 w/o U235 enriched UF4 paraffin moderated at a H/U235 atomic ratio of 195 was determined in the PCTR.nThis material was originally obtained from Oak Ridge NationalnLaboratories to which it was returned in order that critical experimentsnmight be conducted on this material to determine k∞ in this manner.nThe two values of k∞ were then compared.nThe value of k∞ as determined in the PCTR was dependent upon the cross-section values which were chosen. In this experiment "effective"ncross-section values obtained by averaging the cross section over the Wigner-Wilkens spectrum of a similar type of mixture were used.
