THE LAW OF OXIDATION OF METALLIC CERIUM GENERALIZATION TO OTHER METALS

The law which has been established here has only been verified for the oxidation of cerium, but appears to be applicable each time that the action of a gas on a metal gives rise to a protective film which is trans¬formed into a porous layer at a constant rate. The oxidation of uranium, according to our studies, can be interpreted in this fashion. Let us note that Chevenard and Wache have proposed a very similar law to account for the corrosion of iron in steam.
