Corrosion films resulting from exposure of Zircaloy-2 and Zxrcaloy-3 coupons to 680°F water and 750°F steam were investigated by infrared absorption techniques to determine the presence of OH in the film. Since no absorption at the OH stretching frequency, 2.9μ was found in the film, it is tentatively concluded that OH is not present.nInfrared absorption spectra for both anhydrous and hydrated Zr02 were measured in the range 2 to 26u. The characteristic absorptions for anhydrous Zr02 occurred at 13.5, 17.5, and 19.6μ. The hydrated Zr02 showed bands at 3, 6.4, and 7.5μ.
