Progress Report on Effect of Radiation on Dynamic Properties of High Polymers

Progress made during the last year is briefly summarized. Nine additional technical papers, covering some phase of our research, have been published or accepted for publication.) These papers report the results of experimental studies involving dynamic mechanical, nuclear magnetic resonance or specific volume measurements on such polymers as polyethylene, irradiated polyethylene, polyisobutylene, nylon 6-6, amorphous and partially crystalline polypropylene, polybutene and ataxic and isotactic polystyrene. They also include a theoretical paper on the dielectric constant of solutions of polar molecules. Other theoretical studies involving the rate of energy deposition in polyethylene by various mechanisms, the effect of various types of irradiation on the crystalline of polyethylene and the propagation of pulses in rods are described.
