In the 202 MHz radio-frequency amplifier chain of the CERN 50 MeV linear accelerator, drive power control and isolation are provided by inserting a device in the drive to each final amplifier which will divert some of the RF power into a load. The prototype for these units was adjusted to match the line impedance by comparing low-power measure-ments with calculations of the effect of various small changes in line lengths. Units for permanent use in the linac were satisfactorily made as a result of information thus gained. Calculations show that the power divider has a rather narrow bandwidth, so that the frequency of low-power measurements must be carefully controlled.
