摘要

it is the purpose of the present paper to show how to use a finite set of moment equations to describe the plasma when the width (thermal spread) of the distribution function is in some sense smelly This description will yield results, for instance, dispersion relations in the linearized theory, to any desired power in the thermal spread, which are in accord with asymptotic results of the Landau approach to the collisionless Boltzmann equation. The worth of any of the above assumptions is assayed.
