GAS GAIN DRIFT IN A GAS FLOW X-RAY PROPORTIONAL COUNTER;A METHOD OF STABILISATION

摘要

With the attempts that are currently being made to extend x-ray fluorescence analysis to elements of low atomic number, considerable interest is being taken in the use of gas flow x-ray proportional counters in either dispersive or non-dispersive analysis. It is possible to make the windows of these counters of extremely thin plastic material, and this is of great value when detecting very soft x-rays;absorption of these x-rays in the counter window can be a serious factor in reducing their recorded intensity.
