The sample is dried, ground and treated with hydrofluoric acid. The residue is dissolved in nitric acid and the uranium extracted using a continuous ether extraction apparatus. The ether phase is distilled off and any organic matter oxidized using perchloryl and nitric acids. The uranium is determined absorptiometrically using hydrogen peroxide.
