A PRECISE METHOD FOR DETERMINING VANADIUM IN ESSENTIALLY PURE VANADIUM METAL

A precise method of analysis for vanadium in essentially pure vanadium metal is presented. Precision resulting in a limit of error (0.95) for a single determination of ±0.079% is achieved by oxidizing the weighed and dissolved sample to vanadium (V) and reacting this solution with a weighed slight excess of ferrous ammonium sulfate hexahydrate. The ex¬cess reagent is then back-titrated with standard potassium dichromate solution, the titration representing less than 1 per cent of the amount of vanadium present.
