LIQUID METAL FUEL, REACTOR EXPERIMENT CHEMICAL ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES

About 20 chemical analytical procedures were needed in the Liquid Metal Fuel Reactor (LMFRE) program, some to control additive con-centrations, some to identify deposits from loop and capsule tests, and some to support the slurry development phase of the program. Since bismuth is present in almost all samples, most conventional analytical procedures were ineffectual, and new or modified procedures were needed.nDetailed analytical procedures were developed for all 20 determina-tions;of these, 15 were satisfactory in varying degrees, and five 'were unsatisfactory. The determinations developed and their related obser-vations are shown below.
