A study has been made of the saturation characteristics of mean current ionisation chambers with gas fillings of neon, xenon and nitrogen in which the ionisation is due to fission fragments from 235U Electrode spacings of 0.5-2.0 mm and gas pressures of 360-3600 mm of Hg were employed;it is shown that the best characteristics are obtained at the smaller electrode spacings and lower gas pressures.
