DESIGN SUMMARY REPORT for the GETR - HELIUM LOOP-1

In September, 1958, the General Electric Company contracted with the Union Carbide Nuclear Company to build and operate a multiple facility helium gas cooled loop for the testing of gas cooled reactor prototype elements. The ori¬ginal design work and installation of the facility were completed by the end of March, 1959. Subsequent check-out operations required further design effort and modifications to the equipment to permit the realization of reference design conditions. The adaptation of standard commercial equipment to the handling of presurrized helium gas presented problems with which industry in general had little or no experience.
