Radio-iodine, together with added carrier, is separated by extraction as elemental iodine into carbon tetrachloride and back extracted as iodide into dilute sulphurio acid. The iodide is precipitated as the silver salt, mounted and the β-activity is measured;the observed counting rate is corrected for background chemical yield and radioactive decay, and the activity of the original sample is calculated as μμc (per gram, per litre or per sample) by comparison with a standard iodine-131 source.
