THE EFFECT OF ADDITIVES ON THE DENSIFICATION OF URANIA-THORIA COMPOSITIONS

The validity of results were checked by two forming techniques, dry pressing and extrusion. The results are indicated as follows:n1. Additives had an increasing effect on densification with decreasing ThO2 content.n2. The oxides of transition elements were most effective as additives for improving the densification.n3. Varying the forming pressure had little effect on densification.n4. Precalcination of the initial powders was effec¬tive in improving densification.n5. Similar results as above can be achieved with extruded as well as dry-pressed specimens.
