THE KINETICS OF A SYSTEM OF CONSECUTIVE FIRST AND SECOND ORDER REACTIONS IN THE NONSTEADY STATE REGION

An analog computer has been used to obtain 41 particular solutions to the differential equations which result from the mechan¬ism Values of the four rate constants were chosen such that the concen¬tration of B became relatively large and the usual steady state approximation is inaccurate. Differences between the calculated and the steady state approximate values are tabulated, so that the course of the reaction can be sketched for a variety of values of the rate constants. The results also show the limit of validity of the steady state approximation for the given mechanism.
