A Survey of the Beginning of Life Characteristics of Uranium-Fueled, Water-Moderated Lattices

This report presents the results of calculations performed on the beginning of life characteristics of uranium-fueled water-moderated lattices with water-to-uranium volume ratios of 0.4 to 4.0 and enrich¬ments of 1 to 4% *. Both uranium metal and UO2 fuel have been investigated. Most of the results presented here for metal lattices were previously reported in CEND-73 (NYO-2702). In that report, the effect of heterogeneity on the thermal utilization was not considered, and suitable corrections have been made in all material presented here.
