The theory of the hot-wire diffusion column as developed by Jones and Furry involves the shape factors h, kc, and kd which are functions of the transport properties of the gas. The shape factors have been evaluated numerically for a gas whose molecules interact according to the Lennard-Jones (12-6) potential, given by v(r) = 4∈[(σ/r)12 - (σ/r)6].
