Analytical Method For THE DETERMINATION OF TOTAL URANIUM IN RESIDUES CONTAINING URANIUM INSOLUBLE IN NITRIC ACID

The bulk of the uranium is extracted by nitric acid leaching. The uranium is separated chromatographically using a cellulose column and di-ethyl ether/nitric acid mixture as eland. After removal of ether, the uranium is precipitated as ammonium diuranate, ignited to Uranus uremic oxide and weighed.nThe residue from the nitric acid leach is ignited and a portion fused with potassium bisulphate. After sulphate removal the uranium present is separated by continuous ether extraction and determined absorptiometrically using hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate/pyrophosphate reagent.
