A STATISTICAL APPROACH TO THE ESTIMATION OF DESIGN DATA

This report is written for design engineers and others who are faced with the task of making safe estimates of design data from the evidence of one or more tests. The sampling theories of statistical analysis provide a logical basis for this, and although already occasionally used for the purpose, the large majority of design engineers are unaware of their existence. The report attempts to publicise the approach by providing a simply written theoretical survey, together with curves and other data which permit the rapid application of the technique to a variety of problems.
