CONTROL OF FISSURING IN INCONEL BX REGULATING PROCESS VARIABLES

This report discusses fissuring which can occur in Inconel welds;the detection of fissures, the identification of constituents producing fissures, and the means of preventing their formation.nThe same welding products which consistently produce fissure-containing, gas-shielded, consumable electrode (MEG) arc welds, just as consistently produce fissure-free, tungsten inert gas shielded (TIG) arc welds. This difference indicates that fissuring in MIG welds might be minimized or eliminated by controlling the heat input. This study indicates that energy input alone does not measurably affect the degree of fissuring.
