THE LOW ACTIVITY COUNTING EQUIPMENT IN USE AT WOOLWICH OUTSTATION, U.K.A.E.A. (RESEARCH GROUP), 1956-61

This report describes standard equipment used for the automatic counting of low beta-active sources and deals in more detail with development carried out to provide counting facilities at the lowest level for human bone analysis. Background counting rates and stabilities of 0.6 ± 0.025 counts/min are normal over periods of months, with efficiencies (for 90Y) in the region of 25%.nTwo types of alpha counter (flow and scintillation) are briefly described for which approximate background counting rates and efficiencies of 1 count/hour (45%) and 3 counts/hour (30%) respectively are experienced.
