APPLICATION OF MOISTURE SEPARATORS AND PARTICULATE FILTERS IN REACTOR CONTAINMENT

Tests showed that water-repellent particulate filters downstream of moisture separators in the exhaust air system of a water-moderator-and-cooled nuclear reactor remove 99+％ of radioactive particles that may be released during a containable accident. Separators and filters were undamaged when exposed for 30 seconds to wet steam flow of 7000 scfm/filter followed by 10 days exposure to steam-air-entrained H20 mixtures at about the nominal filter capacity of 1000 scfm/filter.
