THE DETERMINATION OF PLUTONIUM IN URINE BY DIRECT PHOSPHATE PRECIPITATION AND AUTORADIOGRAPHY

The report describes the development and use of a method for the routine determination of plutonium in urine. Existing methods are surveyed, and the grounds for the selection of an American procedure as being the best available starting point are discussed. The reasons for the subsequent modifications to some parts of the apparatus and the extensive alterations made in the chemical separations are given.nThe quantitative electrode position of plutonium is discussed and details are given of the technique for the autoradiographic determination of the plutonium content of the sources so prepared. The performance of the method under routine operating conditions, and the possible means of improving the procedure are dealt with.
