A cycle study was performed on a closed loop Brayton cycle incor-porating a gas-cooled nuclear reactor, regeneration, and compressor intercooling. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of various cycle parameters on efficiency and cost.nRegenerator effectiveness, component pressure drops, and mass flow rates were varied to attain various regenerator pumping power to heat removal ratios and total cycle pumping power to heat removal ratios. A total pumping power to heat removal ratio of .05 and a regenerator pump¬ing power to heat removal ratio of .02 were picked as cycle parameters. Minimum total cost of the cycle was obtained at a regenerator effective¬ness of approximately .875* At this effectiveness the cycle with helium as the working fluid and a graphite moderated reactor displayed a .3 mills per kwh cost advantage over a carbon dioxide cycle with a beryllium oxide reactor.
