Gamma-ray spectra following neutron capture have been observed in a large number of neutron resonances in twelve even-even compound nuclei between Nd144 and Hg202. Absolute values of the transition probabilities of the highest energy El gamma-ray transitions have been obtained for most resonances observed and averaged over all resonances considered in a given nuclide. The resonance-average values so obtained yield transition probabilities which are characteristic of the particular transitions considered with relatively good precision. This is in contrast to the values obtained from similar studies of thermal-neutron-capture gamma-ray spectra which are beset with inherent and rather severe uncertainties.
