The results indicate that, under the conditions studied, there are two rate-limiting steps in the hydrogen-copper oxide reaction: (l) external diffusion of hydrogen through a stagnant gas film surrounding the copper oxide pellet and (2) molecular diffusion of the hydrogen through the pores in the porous solid to the reaction site.nDifferential equations were developed to describe the mathe¬matical model of the system, and the mathematical solution was extended to the generalized case which is usable for other systems. The differential equations that were derived may also be used as design equa¬tions for fixed-bed copper oxide oxidizers.
