QUICK – A SIMPLIFIED FUEL COST CODE

The QUICK computer code provides a means of calculating total fuel cost for practically all fuel cycles used in thermal, fast, breeding, and non-breeding reactors. The code breaks down fuel cost into nine basic cost elements which are associated with discrete processes in the fuel cycle. Thus, the effect on fuel cost of varying any one or more of these elements may be determined. The mathematical formulation of each element of cost used in the computer program is presented. The input data to the QUICK code are grouped in five categories which describe the reactor, out-of-reactor processes, price schedule, physics characteristics, and economic parameters. Eighteen different sets of data describing the economic parameters and nine sets of data describing the physics characteristics can be handled by the QUICK code in one IBM 7090 run. The results obtained with the QUICK code are illustrated by an example case. Machine printouts of the computer program for QUICK and of the example case results are presented in the appendixes.
