摘要

The purpose of this work is to develop a technique to use pulsed neutron sources to measure the shutdown of large, thermal power reactors. A theoretical investigation to identify an experimental observable is conducted.nThe experimental work presently centers around the problem of detecting neutrons in the presence of a high gamma field of about 10 R/hr. The latter fact renders conventional techniques with scintillation crystal and photomultiplier tube mounted in-core impractical, because of gamma pulse stack-up.nMany investigators have considered the time-dependent neutron thermalization problem for non-multiplying media. In this study, we consider the time-dependent neutron thermalization for bare multi plying media. In particular we consider the exponential time decay for a pulsed bare multiplying homogeneous assembly. This leads to an eigenvalue problem which can be solved by the use of standard perturbation theory. Some simplifying assumptions are used.
