THE APPLICATION OF PHOTOSENSITIVE GAS COUNTERS TO SCINTILLATION COUNTING

摘要

The present work was undertaken to determine whether the Cs-Sb photo surface used on commercial photomultipliers could be modified to provide better wavelength matching. The modification desired was the removal of the long wavelength tail so that thermal background would be substantially reduced. The incorporation of a photosensitive surface with the characteristics in a Geiger tube for detection of the emitted photoelectron would constitute a simple, low-background liquid or solid scintillation counter.
