摘要

A series of extrusion experiments were conducted to develop a suitable tooling arrangement for the extrusion of I&E fuel elements. The experimental results proved the design to be highly satisfactory. Various pertinent tooling problems were encountered. One included metal flashing which was solved through design of an alternate die-liner concept. The other evolved about die and mandrel wear which will require additional development. Complementary activity indicated that banding could effect tubing integrity, but might be obviated through use of a higher slug temperature and 100° included die entrance angle.
