Two tests were performed to evaluate the feasibility of rotary-piercing reactor -grade uranium in the high alpha temperature range。 Rotary piercing is one process under consideration in an alternate route being developed for the production of uranium fuel cores. The tests were performed in three-roll Witter mills designed for use with steel. While the tests were only partially successful, sufficient data were obtained to establish limits for preheat temperatures, deformation rates, and roll pass designs for use in future rotary - piercing tests. Technical problems requiring further study are discussed.
