A study was made of sample bottles and sealing methods. The bottles studied include half-pint Kerr bottles and 7-oz. and 15-oz. snap-lid vegetable bottles of the kind formerly used for baby foods. The hot-bottle-sealing technique was used for each bottle type, and some Kerr bottles were also tested after being sealed by a hot-lid-sealing method. These sealed bottles, half of which contained water and half of which contained magnesium perchlorate, were then subjected to "rough handling," a wide range of ambient temperatures, or both before placement in controlled-humidity atmospheres. The bottles were weighed back periodically to determine the weight changes due to the leakage of moisture through the seals.
