A mass spectrometer has been developed for comparing the ratios of molybdenum to uranium in mixtures of their hexafluorides containing approximately one per cent molybdenum. Because of the large mass difference, the analyzer is enlarged to house separate collectors which receive the uranium and molybdenum ions simultaneously. Auto¬matic instrumentation directs samples into the ion source, regulates the uranium ion intensity, and records the ratios.nPairs of mixtures are compared to obtain a ratio of molybdenum hexafluoride/uranium hexafluoride mole ratios. This ratio of ratios, R, can be determined to ± 0.3 per cent of the value of R, at the 95 per cent confidence level, in 15 minutes.
