Samples of tuna were obtained from the Tokyo Central Fish Market for radiological analyses during the period from May 2 to October 31, 1962. The fish were caught in the Western Pacific Ocean by Japanese commercial fishermen before, during and after the United States program, in 1962, of testing nuclear devices near Christmas Island in the Central Pacific. The samples were obtained by inspectors from the Tokyo Metropolitan Food Inspection Office of the Tokyo Central Wholesale Market as the fish were unloaded from the fishing vessels.
