A study of the decomposition of para-terphenyl and Santowax R under the combined effects of high temperatures (300 - 400°c) and BEPO pile irradiation has been carried out. The temperature of 350°C was chosen for a more complete series of runs (up to 5.1 x 1018 nvt) and a few irradiations were carried out at 300 and 400°Q. Material was irradiated in silica ampoules sealed under vacuum. Gas and polymer yields were measured and changes in density, viscosity and melting characteristics were determined. G values were calculated on the basis of previous calorimetric measurements relating the thermal neutron dose to total radiation energy absorbed.nAll 100 eV yields obtained with pile irradiation were greater in magnitude than corresponding electron irradiation yields, but there was no simple correlation between the two cases.
