PREPARATION OF WOOD-PLASTIC COMBINATIONS USING GAMMA Interim Report

Continuing studies have demonstrated that the shear strength and static bending strength of wood-plastic combinations prepared by the, use of gamma radiation are superior to those of the corresponding unmodified wood. It had been shown earlier that the hardness and compression strength are substantially increased by the treatment, the former by several hundred per cent it was also demonstrated earlier that the rates of water absorption and dimensional charge were reduced by the treatment thus providing a measure of dimensional stabilization.
